The Snug Story

PipeSnug is the quickest and most efficient way to seal around pipework and is the evolution of an idea by Chris Burdett, a builder and bricklayer with over 30 years’ experience in the trade.

Chris met Alex Lever (through their kids’ school) and discussed his idea one evening over a drink. As you do.

Let Chris explain: “The PipeSnug concept came to me out on site one day when I was preparing to point mortar around a waste pipe for what seemed like the millionth time.  I realised a simple fitting would save so much time compared to mixing mortar or siliconing around the pipe, as well as blending into the fabric of the building visually.”

Alex has founded and run a number of companies, in a wide range of industry sectors, and was excited with the potential of the product as there really did not seem to be anything like it available.

“When Chris told me about PipeSnug I loved the idea.  We formed the business and set to work on the product design and bringing a solution to market.”

Launching PipeSnug

It took around 12 to 18 months to perfect the design, test prototypes and find the right suppliers to work with. One of the major hurdles was to get the product patented, which is a long process – but we got there eventually!

PipeSnug was officially launched with the 32mm and 40mm versions at the Installer show in May 2017.  And the feedback from the trade was AMAZING!  We were also thrilled to win several industry awards.

Expanding the range and availability

Demand for new versions was growing and so in late 2018 we launched the 110mm PipeSnug for soil pipes.  The range was now widely available across the UK at both independent merchants and large national merchants such as Screwfix and Toolstation.

In May 2020 a version to fit 100mm boiler flues – FlueSnug – was released.  Endorsed by the likes of Worcester Bosch and Ideal Heating, FlueSnug quickly became a firm favourite amongst the nation’s heating engineers.

Building Regulations Changes & Net Zero

Designed to help the UK meet its Net Zero targets by making homes airtight and more energy-efficient, Part L of the Building Regulations was changed in December 2021.  These changes stated that pipe seals and grommets had to be used around pipework. PipeSnug is the only all-in-one solution to meet this need. For more information on these changes and how PipeSnug can help, please take a look here.

The Present and Beyond

We have exciting plans to grow the business with several new versions being designed so that there is a PipeSnug for every application in every building – residential, commercial and industrial.

We can’t wait for the next chapter of the Snug story.
